Refugia

About Refugia

Tuning into the Future Dream, Now.

Why Refugia

I first learned about refugia in a botany class: the small pockets of protection where living things can survive periods of profound disruption, and help carry life forward.

It's a fascinating learning, if you’d like to look it up!

When I began imagining this space, it surfaced.

I want Refugia to be a sanctuary... a place to rest, connect, and to remember. To practice and participate in the creation and absorption of beauty.

Refugia exists to nurture a community that feels powerful in its vision of a beautiful future, while celebrating all of the other communities around the world doing the very same thing.

We are but one humble point of light on the web of humans gathering, to dream a dream into existence.

To not only imagine its possibility, but to practice it here, now.

We are all doing this together, by making these moments and these practices and these conversations, a reality.

Chalise

A lifelong relationship with plants. A practice of tea. A place where the two meet.

Chalise started working in horticulture at fifteen. She considers her lifelong Dao, or Path, as one of the Gardener. Over the years, her relationship with plants has taken many forms—from gardening and greenhouse work to high-end seasonal container design and, most recently, floral arrangement work.

When she met Tea, it was both a homecoming and a recognition, another way to Be With Plants.

What drew her in was not simply the tea itself, but the beauty, rhythm, lineage, and seasonal attunement of the practice.

Tea gave form to something she already understood instinctively through plants: that paying close attention to the world around us can become a practice in itself.

It is now her sincere and quiet honor, to be able to serve tea to all who come to sit. To create a beautiful floral arrangement to adorn your space with the ephemeral perfection of the season. To be a friend on the path of remembering the importance of slowing down, listening deeply, and holding space for one another.

In a world that often rushes by, sitting in tea ceremony or to be with flowers, is a pause and a gentle reminder that, sometimes, the simplest things can be the most profound.

Refugia, like the practices that shaped it, is meant to be living.

It will change with the seasons, with the people who gather here, and with whatever asks to be created next.

We hope you’ll come spend some time here.
